Anytime I need gravel, stone or I just need to dump debris from one of our properties, these guys are the absolute best. Always kind, always helpful me when I'm not sure about what kind of stone or how much I need... It's always nice to know that I'm going to be happy anytime I leave their property. Their rates are affordable and their hours are great too. Being in monkey junction, their location is perfect as well. Thank you Alexis, Sam, and the rest of the gang!

My wife and I recently moved back into town, and one of our first to-dos was putting new mulch throughout the home's landscaping. Not only were Mike's rates highly competitive, but the quality of the mulch is unmatched. To top it off, they delivered it first thing Saturday morning, making it a breeze to finish the job by lunchtime! I highly recommend giving them a call if you're in the market.

This is the second time I've used Mike's Mulch and Stone for my house needs. Mike installed a wonderful back-alley driveway for me in blue stone, and I have loved it so much, I asked him to do my front driveway as well this week. Mike showed me a host of options, and guided me to what was, in the end, the perfect choice. Stunning cobblestones set in concrete, with blue stone filler. Mike re-graded the drive, and ensured the work was up to his standards - which are incredibly high. I'm so pleased with the work, I wish I had another one for them to do! The pricing is extremely fair, and the work EFFICIENT and clean. FAMILY OWNED business, and the President does the actual work - one simply cannot make a better investment than going with Mike Tartar and Mike's Mulch and Stone!

I have multiple aquariums that I decorate with stone. Mike's staff has never treated me like a "small" customer, and have always been helpful when I buy stones. Truly the top in customer service. If you're in the hobby you'll pay about one-tenth of what you pay in aquarium stores!

As a landscape contractor constantly buying material and waiting on invoices ect.. my phone had died the other day so I couldn’t move money over to my checking account and my card declined! The lady on the front desk could have easily told me to unload the trailer and come back… but she didn’t! She trusted me to call her back and pay over the phone. I appreciated this a lot, as we were in a rush that day.

I went in this morning to order stone, hoping it would get delivered tomorrow. Nope, Alexis had it to my house within 30 minutes. Turns out my calculations were way off and I needed twice as much as I initially ordered. So I called back at about 4:10, 20 minutes before they closed on a Friday, again hoping for a delivery tomorrow. They were able to sneak one last delivery out for me same day, since tomorrow (Saturday) was booked up! (I will add that I live about 3 miles from their yard, which definitely helped with the quick end of day delivery).

I went to Mikes mulch and stone for a flat stone for my garden. My son passed away in June and was cremated. I couldn’t bear not to have a memorial that showed he lived. They had just what I needed. I started to pay she said no it’s yours take it😢. I didn’t expect that, I would have gladly paid. I will use them for all my mulch, stone whatever. And recommend them to everyone I know. Thank you for showing this grieving mother that there are still kind people willing to reach out and help.

Mike Tarter Jr runs a remarkable local business. Beyond providing affordable local topsoil, mixed aggregate, path stones and more... he's an ARTIST behind the wheel of a bobcat. His grading and maneuvering skills leaves you with a yard or driveway both aesthetic but also purposeful. Can't reccomend enough!

Got about 400 Cobblestone edgers for our flower beds around our house, it looks absolutely incredible! They were so nice and helpful! Great prices too!! So much easier and cheaper to get bulk mulch, etc. here than buying it pretty much anywhere else!! Highly recommend!!

I have purchased flag stone and rock from Mike’s Mulch to do backyard projects & found the employees to be very knowledgable & helpful. I recently called Mike for an estimate for grading and gravel for RV parking pad. He came out the same day to give an estimate and completed the job that week. He did a great job and I would highly recommend Mike’s Mulch & Stone for any landscaping/hardscaping projects.

Could not have been happier with the quality of this work. We had a beautiful stone patio and firepit installed which has completed transformed our backyard and outdoor lifestyle. Incredible workmanship!! The entire crew was so respectful of our property, and cleaned up at the end of each day. The lead on this job (Ritchie) was very communicative throughout the process which allowed for the job to flow smoothly, and to completely understand our vision for this space. Also, the owner (Mike) frequently stopped by to check in to make sure that all was going well. Such a great experience, and a pleasure to work with a team that are not only good at what they do, but fine human beings as well.

These guys are awsome! I frequent Mike's Mulch quite often for work and I could go on all day about how wonderful these guys are. They are so welcoming, always smiling, smart, hard working and they are the best at what they do. I wouldnt go anywhere else! We are constantly there for mulch, to get rid of yard debri, stone, sand. They even deliver and their qualifications stretch far beyond what I've mentioned. Stop in say hey you wont leave disappointed. Love these guys!

You can't beat their prompt and friendly service. Plus, they are always ready with a helping hand. Ladies, these are gentlemen. You will be treated with respect at this place. Every time we have ordered pine straw, gravel mulch or pine bark mulch the truck has come either the same day or the next. Very efficient - with always a call ahead to confirm delivery. Yard debris can be dropped off at their site for only $2 a bag. That sure beats going to the land fill. Can't say enough good things about Mike's Mulch!

Truly outstanding! These guys are really artists. I don't know where to begin with my praise for Mike's, but I will try to keep this to the point. My wife and I contracted Mike and his outstanding, talented crew (Rich, TJ and Mikey) to do a retaining wall and a pool surround. Despite the terrible August weather, they struggled through week after week to see the project to completion. We are so happy with their work and with their professionalism and flexibility, that we have signed on with them for 3 more separate projects - a driveway, an outdoor fireplace, and a small patio. Not only were Mike's fees highly competitive, but the work that they do is extremely impressive to watch. My wife and I were not entirely sure what we wanted exactly, but Mike was very helpful and flexible in trying to create something beautiful that we would love. We even asked to change a significant aspect of the project midway and Mike went right along with it suggesting an option that turned out incredible. Rich, TJ, and Mikey went out of their way time and time again to keep the project neat and to keep the results at the standard of excellence that they have set for themselves - even redoing a section that they were not happy with even though we thought it was fine. I will most definitely be calling Mike again for additional projects and I strongly recommend them to others.

I've had great experiences with them. I've found their prices to be reasonable and even had them drive all the way up to Jacksonville NC to deliver some rock because the people up there were too expensive. Even after the sale, Sam was very helpful in working with me to track down an invoice. These guy are top notch and I'll use them again.

These guys have done work for us on several occasions in Carolina Beach. Their work is great, they are prompt and friendly to deal with. Mike is very accommodating and did a nice job on our backyard.
